NEW DELHI: A man was arrested in Arunachal Pradesh's Papum Pare for allegedly attacking two fish sellers from Assam who refused to give him fish for free, police said on Thursday. The incident happened in Banderdewa on Wednesday night, they said.
According to police, Phassang Niya (56) attacked two individuals with a machete after they declined his demand for 3 kg of fish without payment.
The assault resulted in severe forehead injuries to Arun Hazarika and rib wounds to Utpal Das, as reported by authorities.
The victims are currently receiving medical care at the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), confirmed Superintendent of Police Mihin Gambo.
The SP assured that authorities have maintained control over the law-and-order situation.
The incident occurred in Banderdewa, which borders the North Lakhimpur district of Assam.
"I have spoken to the SP of North Lakhimpur for coordination, and to ensure peace and tranquillity in both states," Gambo stated.
Reports indicate that the assailant hails from Pallang village in Kurung Kumey district, whilst the injured parties are Assam residents.
