Itanagar: Tourism has the potential to be one of the biggest industries in the state, deputy CM Chowna Mein said on Saturday.
Chairing a review meeting of the department at the Civil Secretariat here, Mein said, “Nobody would think of going to Kerala for mere tourism until a few years ago. Today, because of well-planned development of tourism as an industry, the scene has changed.
Kerala has transformed into a major tourist destination. We need to make Arunachal a tourist destination in a similar way.”
Mein asked the department to play a proactive role in the conservation of wildlife in the state.
State tourism minister Pasang Dorjee Sona called for aggressive promotion to make an impact on the tourism industry. “Due diligence is required because when we talk about tourism in Arunachal, we need to discuss how this department can be further strengthened. We need out-of-the-box ideas for the advancement of tourism,” he added.
