Arunachal min bats for mithun rearing

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh’s animal husbandry and veterinary minister, Gabriel D Wangsu, has released a road map for revitalizing the mithun sector in the state during the 37th foundation day of ICAR-National Research Centre on Mithun at Medziphema, Nagaland. In his speech, the minister stated, “Mithun, a gentle giant, is the thermometer to understand the quality of environment. Where mithun thrives, it may be taken for granted that the natural environment is at its best.”Wangsu emphasized the importance of protecting and promoting mithun rearing, as it holds great significance in the tribal communities’ culture and traditions. He called for a unified approach among all mithun-rearing states to address the concerns and declare mithun as a domestic animal.The minister also highlighted the need for international collaboration with other mithun-rearing nations, such as Bhutan, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, to ensure that Mithun farmers receive the best support, given that the animal has been recognized as a food animal. He urged the establishment of Mithun Research and Training facilities in Arunachal Pradesh and encouraged scientists to develop kits for detecting Mithun meat adulteration to maintain quality control.
