Arunachal CEO seeks help of pol parties for error-free electoral roll

Itanagar: Arunachal’s chief electoral officer (CEO) Pawan Kumar Sain has urged political parties to actively participate in preparation of error-free electoral roll. While addressing a state-level meet with representatives of all parties at Nirvachan Bhavan on Thursday, he emphasized that parties should activate their district units and ensure appointment of booth level agents (BLAs) at all polling stations to assist the booth level officers (BLOs) in order to prepare for an error-free electoral roll. He said that the annual summary revision of photo electoral rolls is going on in all the 60 assembly constituencies with reference to Jan 01, 2005 as the qualifying date. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Indian National Congress, People’s Party of Arunachal and Aam Aadmi Party. The CEO said, “During the revision period a BLA can submit maximum of 10 forms a day and not more than 30 during the entire period.” He added, “The BLA must furnish a declaration citing he is satisfied with the correctness of submitted claims and objections.”

Parties unite to demand error-free electoral rolls

Political parties, including DMK and AIADMK, accused the Election Commission of errors in photo electoral rolls and urged for accurate rolls during the special summary revision. Concerns included missing names, particularly from minority communities and deceased voters. The final electoral rolls will be published in January 2025. Party representatives discussed these issues with the chief electoral officer.

Parties demand 100% error-free electoral roll

National and state political parties criticized the Election Commission for inaccuracies in the photo electoral roll and demanded a 100% error-free roll during the upcoming revision. Allegations included unfair removal of voters, missing names, and discrepancies in the rolls provided. The final roll is scheduled for publication on January 6, 2025.

Pranabjyoti Nath appointed new chief electoral officer

IAS officer Pranabjyoti Nath has been appointed as Kerala's new chief electoral officer by the Election Commission of India. Nath, from the 2005 batch, will resign from all other state duties to focus on upcoming by-elections in Wayanad, Palakkad, and Chelakkara. The position had been vacant since August 30.
