ITANAGAR: National People's Party (NPP) on Wednesday announced its first list of 29 candidates for assembly elections in

Meghalaya

chief minister Conrad Sangma is contesting elections for the first time in the Himalayan state. Arunachal Pradesh will be hosting simultaneous polls to the Lok Sabha and assembly on April 11.

The party has fielded two ministers, home minister Kumar Waii and tourism minister Jarkar Gamlin from Bameng and Aalo (East) assembly constituencies, respectively. BJP did not give tickets to the two ministers this time.

BJP MLAs who were denied tickets, such as Tapuk Taku (Seppa-East), Pani Taram (Koloriang), Thangwang Wangham (Longding-Pumao) and Paknga Bage (

Dumporijo

), also figured in the NPP list. Sitting NPP MLAs like Mutchu Mithi (

Roing

), Nikh Kamin (Bordumsa-Diyun) and Tirong Aboh from Khonsa-West seat, too, made it to the list. Former BJP general secretary Jarpum Gamlin has been fielded by the NPP from Liromoba constituency. Former minister Tsering Gyurme will contest from Dirang assembly seat.

NPP also fielded a host of newcomers including Nikh Khopi (Lekang), Tony Pertin (Dambuk), Danhang Phuksa (Khonsa-East), Tahang Taggyu ((

Rumgong

), Jampa Thrinley Kunkhap (Lumla), Shoney Pertin (Mebo), Gokar Basar (Basar), Karto Kaye (Nari-Koyu) among others.

Party vice-president Nima Sange Saling said NPP will declare its second list of candidates, along with names for Lok Sabha polls, on Thursday.
