Constable arrested on charge of molesting teen in Itanagar
Itanagar: A constable has been arrested for allegedly molesting a woman near the police station, officials here said Friday. A social media post prompted the police to swing into action.

Police sources said the incident reportedly occurred when the 19-year-old victim went to the PS on Wednesday night to charge her phone. The officer on duty offered to arrange for her safe transportation back home, but she refused. Shortly after she left the police station, the constable allegedly followed her to a poorly lit area a few 100 metres away and molested her.
The matter came to light when one of the victim’s friends, in whom she might have confided, posted about it on WhatsApp and Facebook, prompting the social media cell of Itanagar police to take suo motu cognisance of it.
Inspectors Khiksi Yangfo and Rina Sonam traced the victim and her family, who were initially reluctant to file a complaint. They, however, agreed to do so after counselling.
The accused was taken into custody following a complaint lodged by the victim at Women’s PS, Itanagar. A case has been registered under sections 74/75/78 BNSS, 2023. Investigation is under way.
Capital SP Rohit Rajbir Singh said, “The safety of women and children is our top priority. The accused has been arrested and will face swift legal action. Such conduct will not be tolerated.”
