Itanagar: Police on Saturday submitted a charge-sheet against 28 accused persons for trafficking and forced prostitution of five minor girls before a special Pocso court judge here.
Police had busted the sex trafficking racket in May with the arrest of 22 people, including traffickers, pimps and assailants. The five minor girls forced into prostitution, mostly from Dhemaji in Assam, were rescued then.
SP (Capital) Rohit Rajbir Singh on Sunday said, “The case was finalised within the mandated 60 days, ensuring that no arrested accused can get default bail.
We have strongly objected to bail for any accused, ensuring that all the perpetrators remain in judicial custody.”
The SP further said two accused, namely Niru Das and Bamang Moses, were arrested a day earlier.
Das was part of the network of pimps and had procured customers who sexually assaulted the minor victims. Moses, an identified sexual assailant, who was on the run and against whom an NBW of arrest was issued, was nabbed by a team of cops from Itanagar women police station. More arrests are likely to follow in the coming days, the SP said.
The charges have been framed under various sections of the IPC, Pocso Act 2012 and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, 1956, he added.
