Arunachal sets ball rolling to strengthen existing ILP system
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh chief minister Pema Khandu on Monday set the ball rolling to strengthen the existing Inner Line Permit (ILP) system that makes it mandatory for any non-Arunachalee citizen to obtain a permit to enter the state.
In a joint meeting with top govt officials and leaders of All Arunachal Pradesh Students’ Union (AAPSU) here this morning, Khandu emphasized the need to strengthen the ILP system to prevent illegal entry and prolonged stay of non-local migrants in the state, a statement from the CMO said this evening.

“Our main objective is to protect our indigenous tribes from outside influx and we are committed to it,” he said.
While informing that the state govt is internally preparing to strengthen the ILP system, Khandu said it was necessary to take inputs from the state’s premier students’ organization. AAPPSU, headed by its president Dozi Tana Tara, through a power point presentation explained in detail survey conducted by the Union and ways and means to strengthen the present system.
On August 7, the apex students’ body of the state had urged the state government to suspend the e-ILP in the state amid the ongoing crisis in neighbouring Bangladesh.
The demand was made following mounting concerns over inadequate monitoring and verification processes in the 12 ILP-affected districts of Arunachal Pradesh that border Assam.
