Arunachal Pradesh records 9% drop in cognisable crimes

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh recorded a 9.14% dip in cognisable offences in 2022, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB). The state recorded a total of 2,761 crime cases last year, down from 3,039 in 2021, the NCRB said in its latest report.In 2022, the state recorded 2,308 cases registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC), in comparison to 2,626 such cases reported in the previous year, which was a decrease of 12.1%, it said. Charge sheets were filed in 47.2% of the cases filed in 2022, it added. The cases under Special & Local Laws (SLL) stood at 433, an increase of 4.84% from the previous year, which saw 413 such cases. Charge sheets were filed in 83.4% of these cases. The state recorded 45 murder or attempt to murder cases in 2022, 80 cases of crime against women, 199 cases of kidnapping, abduction and human trafficking, and 790 cases of rape, attempt to rape and unnatural offences. Seventeen cases of rioting and 274 cases related to deaths due to negligence during road accidents were also registered. PTI

The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) released its annual crime report, revealing a concerning surge in crimes against women in India. The data disclosed a staggering 4,45,256 cases in 2022, with a crime rate of 66.4 per lakh population. Delhi had the highest crime rate of 144.4, surpassing the national average. Uttar Pradesh registered the highest number of cases, followed by Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh. The NCRB emphasized the need for a comprehensive investigation into the underlying factors contributing to this distressing trend.

Uttarakhand tops Himalayan states in cases of rape: NCRB

Uttarakhand recorded the highest number of cases of rape of women and children among the nine Himalayan states including Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and two union territories (UTs), Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) and Ladakh, according to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report on crime for 2022. A total of 4,337 cases of crime were reported against women in Uttarakhand last year, followed by J&K and Himachal Pradesh. Uttarakhand also reported the maximum cases of child rapes with total 637 cases, followed by Meghalaya and J&K.
