Arunachal guv calls for concerted efforts to ease traffic snarls in capital

Itanagar: Expressing concern over frequent traffic snarls in the state capital, Arunachal Pradesh governor Lieutenant General (Retired) K T Parnaik on Wednesday called for concerted efforts by all stakeholders, including the district administration, police and municipal corporation, to address the issue.Reviewing issues of traffic congestion and urgent repair of internal roads in capital city Itanagar, the governor emphasised on working in a “mission mode”, using technology and “thinking out of the box” to find solutions.Parnaik expressed deep concern over the inconvenience caused to common people due to regular traffic jams and potholes on city roads, a Raj Bhavan communiqué said.He said internal roads should be quickly repaired, vehicles parked on the roadside removed and bypasses and diversions created at choke-points.The governor urged the department of urban development to plan adequate parking areas along roads to decongest traffic.He advocated for the removal of encroachments and waste disposal along the Trans Arunachal Highway from the Hollongi Airport to the capital city and beyond.PWD principal secretary, urban development commissioner, deputy inspector general of police, deputy commissioners of Capital Region and Papum Pare district and other stakeholders present in the meeting briefed the governor on the issues related to beautification and traffic of the state capital, the communiqué added. As traffic chokes Hyderabad, police plans odd-even and carpooling in city

Hyderabad is considering implementing the odd-even arrangement and carpooling system to address traffic issues. The police commissioner mentioned that carpooling is successful in Delhi and Mumbai, and it's time for Hyderabad to think about it. The implementation timeline is yet to be decided, and all stakeholders will be consulted. The increase in vehicles has led to air and noise pollution, and reducing traffic can significantly decrease pollution levels and promote the adoption of electric vehicles. Experts have mixed opinions, with some suggesting the addition of more buses and improved metro train frequency as a better alternative.

Two killed in head-on collision in capital city

Two men, including a Ukraine-returned medical student, were killed in a head-on collision on Patia-Nandankanan road in Bhubaneswar. Two other individuals were seriously injured and admitted to a private hospital. The accident occurred when a bike riding on the wrong side collided with another two-wheeler. The riders of both bikes, Dhananjay Biswal and Sampad Nayak, died on the spot, while the pillion riders suffered multiple fractures and critical injuries. The incident highlights the prevalence of wrong-side driving, which accounted for 66% of traffic violations detected in a recent drive in Bhubaneswar.
