NEW DELHI: At least three students were killed and three others sustained injuries when an overhead water tank collapsed at St Alphonsa School in Model Village, Naharlagun, on Saturday.
The incident occurred while the students were playing at the school, according to Naharlagun superintendent of police Mihin Gambo.
The injured students were taken to the Tomo Riba Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (TRIHMS), where three were declared dead.
The deceased were class 9 students, while the other students who sustained injuries are from classes 6 and 7.
A post-mortem is underway.
The police have detained the school principal, owner, and four staff members for questioning.
Preliminary investigations suggest the water tank may have exceeded its capacity.
However, authorities are continuing to investigate the exact cause of the collapse.
