Youth dies accidentally while threatening mother of suicide

INDORE: In a bizarre incident, a drunken youth was killed when his mother accidentally tightened the noose he had tied around his neck to threaten her of committing suicide if she failed to give him more money for liquor.
The incident took place in Geeta Nagar under Chandan Nagar police station of city on Tuesday when 19-year-old Mohammad Sohail threatened his mother Shamim of committing suicide if she did not give him money to buy alcohol.
Sohail was heavily drunk when the incident took place. The demand for money further led to an argument between the two which later escalated into a scuffle, said police.
“Sohail took his mother’s stole and tied it around his neck while saying that he will commit suicide. While trying to save her son, the mother accidentally tightened the noose of the stole, which suffocated Sohail and he fell unconscious on the floor,” said investigating officer and sub-inspector S S Rajput.
The youth was rushed to the hospital by neighbours, where he was declared brought dead.
“We have taken the mother of deceased into custody for interrogation. This might even be a case of murder as the woman has claimed that her son had even threatened her of rape in the past. The body has been sent for post-mortem and further details will be clear once we get the report,” said Rajput.
According to police, Sohail had snatched Rs 100 from his mother on Tuesday morning and went out. He returned in a drunken state and asked his mother to prepare something to eat. He also asked her to give him Rs 500, when she refused, he started beating her.
The drama continued for a couple of hours. Later, when Sohail threatened of committing suicide with a stole, his mother, while trying to save him, accidentally tightened the noose. Shamim left Sohail on the floor thinking that he was drunk and would get up after some time. However, even after some hours when he did not wake up, he was taken to hospital.
“Sohail has been an alcohol addict since the past five years. All the neighbours were troubled by his deeds. He used to create nuisance in the colony and harass people,” claimed a neighbour.
