INDORE: The upward trend in the city's

minimum temperature

continued on Thursday. The weathermen recorded 12.5 degree Celsius that was three degrees above normal.

Minimum temperature across the city shot up above the normal level in the past three days due to the effect of cyclonic storm raging in the south peninsula.

The maximum temperature in the city has also seen a rise since December 12.

The minimum temperature shot up over 4 degrees in five days and is expected to remain like this for the next few days as easterlies penetrate into MP. According to the Met department, the fluctuation in the temperature was an effect of Vardah cyclone that struck the southern part of the country.

"The moisture in the state had increased due to Vardah cyclone that resulted in increasing the relative humidity in MP that made the temperatures rise in Indore also," said Met director

Anupam Kashyapi

. He also attributed the increased temperature to the changed wind pattern.

However, the rise may be short-lived as the temperatures will return to normal or below normal level in a couple of days, said the Met department officials.

"The north westerly wind pattern is again setting up in the state and thus the temperature is expected to go down in the next 48 hours," added

. On December 9, Indore's minimum temperature stood at 9.5 degrees Celsius, but shot up to 13.8 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Damoh district recorded the lowest temperature in the state with 7.0 degree Celsius on Thursday.
