Water, adventure activities for tourists soon

Indore: Eyeing to increase tourist footfall, the tourism department is mulling over adding water and adventure activities at potential locations in the state having water bodies. Madhya Pradesh Tourism Board (MPTB) is identifying locations with water bodies and land that can be used for developing water activities like boating, banana ride and other water related activities to engage tourists even in hotter months, a lean tourist season for the state amid high temperature. Rajghat Dam, Chanderi, Gandhi Sagar, Sailani and Hanuwantiya are some of the destinations where the tourism board is adding new and expanding existing water activities. An official from the MPTB wishing not to be named said, “We are working on plans to develop water activities at locations having water bodies. Some areas have already been identified and more are being looked at. We are developing water activities at Rajghat Dam and a lake in Chanderi besides activities in Gandhi Sagar, Sailani and Hanuwantiya are being expanded.” The board is working on roping in partners for conducting scuba diving, water rafting, speed boats and banana boats among other activities in the states. Some of the locations where water events are expected to be introduced include Indira Sagar Dam in Khandwa, Omkareshwar Dam in Khandwa, Barwani Point to Sardar Sarovar Dam in Barwani, Tawa Dam in Hoshangabad, Bargi dam in Jabalpur.“The work for developing a jetty at Chanderi has started and we plan to start boating with 2 boats and see the response of tourists. We are also planning to develop water sports at Rajghat dam because it attracts good tourist footfalls.” TNN
