In order to promote yoga amongst jail inmates, jail officials have come up with this unique rule for the inmates.

Officials want all the inmates to practise yoga on daily basis. A new schedule has also been issued in this regard. The inmates, who are not deployed on any duty, have been asked to practise yoga for one hour every day, jail superintendent Santosh Solanki said.

There are around 2300 inmates in the jail, of which around 700 have been assigned some duty, while remaining 1500 have been asked to perform yoga on daily basis.

“As per the schedule, every day from 7 am to 8 am, inmates will have to perform yoga. We have also asked 60 inmates who are expert in yoga to hold session in their wards and barracks for other prisoners,” Solanki said. The authority had found that 250 inmates were trying to escape their schedule. To ensure that all inmates follow the schedule, officials came up with new the rules, including 10-day yoga practise. “Now, all the inmates have started performing yoga,” said Solanki.

Jailer KK Kulshrestha said, “There are several inmates, who want to pursue yoga certification course. We have been trying to get them certified. We have approached some distance learning institutes in this regard. Soon we will start a yoga certification course for inmates through which they will be able to become yoga gurus.”
