Vijay Nagar scores high in public satisfaction & proactive policing, Central Kotwali declared worst
Indore: The Indore police commissionerate on Monday released the first ever monthly evaluation results for the city's police stations. Vijay Nagar police station topped the ranking, which was based on performance data, public feedback, crime prevention and other parameters for Jan 2026, while Central Kotwali police station ranked at the bottom for poor performance."Under the direction of commissioner Santosh Kumar Singh, Indore Police implemented a standardised performance appraisal system. This initiative aims to make policing more professional, transparent, performance-oriented, and public-oriented. The evaluation is conducted monthly by a committee-led by the deputy commissioners of police (DCPs) of the respective zones," additional DCP Rajesh Dandotiya told TOI.
Performance is measured against several key parameters, including crime control on effectiveness in preventing and solving crimes, public satisfaction on responsiveness to citizen grievances, innovation on implementation of new policing techniques or community outreach programmes and operational efficiency for standards of maintenance and procedural transparency."In the crime control parameter, a police station's performance is evaluated on actions on serious crimes, including women-related cases, recovery of missing minors, recovery in fraud and theft cases, time-bound investigation, disposal of old cases and addressing public complaints, including those on CM Helpline and disposal of cyber cases," Dandotiya said.He added that, in the performance parameter, the percentage of serving summons/warrants, actions under the Arms Act, excise, and NDPS cases, along with taking preventive actions, timely handling of law and order situations, public outreach, holding public hearings, conducting meetings of mohalla samiti and helping applicants with passport and other verifications were also assessed."Apart from the use of advanced technology, including drone patrolling along with drink-and-drive checking, there is also marking of public feedback. Negative marking is also there based on complaints/cases against staff of the police station," the senior police official explained. In the latest review, Vijay Nagar police station (zone-02) emerged as the best performer, followed by Khajrana and Kanadia, across all 32 stations in the commissionerate. The station was lauded for its proactive policing and high public satisfaction scores. Conversely, Central Kotwali police station (zone-03) recorded the weakest performance, with Raoji Bajaar and Sarafa in the second and third last positions, failing to meet the established benchmarks for operational excellence and public interaction. The commissionerate announced a two-pronged approach following the results. Staff and Vijay Nagar station house officer (SHO) will be rewarded and encouraged to maintain their high standards. Similarly, the in-charge and staff of the underperforming Central Kotwali station will undergo specialised training for several days to improve their working methodology."If the performance does not show visible improvement following the training period, strict departmental action will be initiated against the responsible personnel," Dandotiya said. He added that the evaluation process is expected to create a competitive environment among the city's police stations, ultimately leading to a more secure and citizen-friendly environment in Indore.
