MP trader killed, wife held hostage as gang makes away with cash and jewellery from house

INDORE: A 28-year-old spices trader was brutally murdered by a group of men who barged into his house late on Monday and made away with cash and jewellery worth lakhs in Sardarpur of Dhar district. The accused allegedly held the trader's wife captive as they killed her husband in another room.Dhar ASP Parul Belapurkar said, "We are trying to figure out the motive behind the murder. All the angles are being looked into."The attackers barged into the house of trader Devkrishna Purohit in Gondikheda Charan village by climbing through a neighbouring structure. Purohit was asleep in his room with his wife, while his mother and sister were in other rooms.The attackers first overpowered his wife, Priyanka. Priyanka told police that she was gagged, her hands and legs were tied, and she was held hostage while the assailants carried out the crime. The accused then attacked Devkrishna with a sharp-edged weapon. He suffered excessive bleeding and died on the spot.Priyanka, in her statement to police said, three to four men had entered the house. They threatened to kill her husband if she did not hand over valuables. She said the men ransacked cupboards and forced her to take out cash and jewellery. She said that she remained tied up for nearly half an hour and could not see the exact moment of the fatal attack as she had been restrained on the bed.Police said the accused fled with gold and silver ornaments worth lakhs after leaving the house in disarray.On receiving information, police teams, along with forensic experts and a dog squad, reached the spot. The body was sent to Sardarpur Civil Hospital for postmortem examination.During the initial probe, police found that the Purohit's mobile phone was missing. He had a deep head injury, nearly 12 inches in length.
