INDORE: On the first day of ‘complete lockdown’,
local administration
on Friday strengthened checks on non-essential movements and activities bringing a deserted look on major roads of the city and when police intercepted people while roaming, mostly gave‘bizarre’ excuses of stepping out of their home. During the day, cops at 21 police stations made the maximum arrest of a single day (686) and sent them to temporary jail. Meanwhile, many senior
BJP leaders including
Kailash Vijayvargiya opposed the collector’s order of banning grocery, fruits and vegetable shops/sale till May 28. “What was the need of enforcing such an unconstitutional and dictatorial decision on a disciplined city like
Indore
, which is being condemned everywhere. The administration and public representatives should rethink over the decision”
Vijayvargiya
posted a tweet.
In his order released on Thursday evening, the collector Manish Singh had mentioned that it is important to break the chain of COVID-19 infection till May 31, so that the district crisis management committee could propose the state government to allow some activities in the month of June.
On Friday, the collector hinted to open some activities from June 1 in phase-wise manner.
In compliance with the collector’s order putting a complete lockdown, except home-delivery of grocery items from big stores like Big Bazaar and movement of people working in industries, godowns and transportation in three slots, local police launched an intensive checking drive at all the major squares.
During the day,one person stopped at
Vijay Nagar
square told the police that his mother has died while another claimed his mother’s health was deteriorating but the officials concerned found the same as a lie in the verification. This apart, one person approached Vijay Nagar police station TI to let go of his friend, whom the cops had arrested for roaming without any reason.
The police arrested them all and sent them to the temporary jail in Gujarati Samaj Dharmshala. Similarly, people were found giving different and ‘bizarre’ reasons for stepping out of their home.Police however also overlooked some people showing them ‘permission letter’ of the companies they are working in but to no avail. During the day, cops at 21 police stations made the maximum arrest of a single day (686) and sent them to temporary jail.
