This century-old school will take robotics leap from July
Indore: Come July, the corridors of 104-year-old Govt Sharda Kanya Higher Secondary Girls' School at Bada Ganpati will see students writing codes and building small machines, as the school is setting up a robotics lab on the campus. The school, established in 1922, has received laboratory equipment and is preparing a dedicated space for the facility. From the upcoming academic session, girls of classes 9 to 12 will be introduced to coding, decoding and basic robotics through practical sessions."We were trying to get Atal Tinkering Lab set up in our school for the last few years. We have received the laboratory equipment and material now. The lab is being set up with teachers' training planned in May and June," school principal, Sunayana Sharma told TOI.The teachers will undergo specialised training in coding, use of equipment and project-based teaching methods, after which they will conduct sessions for students during the academic year. The lab will be equipped with a wide range of components, including motors, sensors, capacitor kits, Bluetooth modules and LED systems. These will allow students to build working models such as motor-based robots, sensor-driven devices and simple display systems, helping them understand the basics of electronics and automation. The school, which has around 950 students from classes 9 to 12, also plans to open the lab to students from nearby govt schools who are interested in learning robotics, extending the facility beyond its own campus.Sharda Kanya School has already introduced practical learning through its astronomy lab, one of the few such facilities in govt schools in Indore. Equipped with telescopes and models, the lab allows students to study space and related concepts. With the addition of the robotics lab, the school is bringing a new layer to its teaching approach. For a govt school with a long academic history, the change is evident in the classroom itself, where students will now move beyond textbooks to hands-on work, building models and learning how basic technology functions.
