Temp drops to 40.1°C, heat still strains residents in city

Indore: A drop in temperature over the past few days has brought a partial relief to residents in the city, as harsh summer conditions continue to disrupt daily routines.The mercury, which had touched 43 degrees Celsius on Sunday, declined to 40.1 degrees Celsius on Wednesday, marking a fall of nearly three degrees. Despite this change, the afternoon heat remained intense.Residents say the difference is noticeable during early mornings and late evenings. But conditions between noon and 4 pm continue to be uncomfortable. Markets and streets witness thinner crowds during peak hours, while those engaged in outdoor work still face strong sunlight and dry winds.Met officials said the current maximum temperature is slightly below normal, while the minimum temperature has settled at 23.5 degree Celsius. Western winds blowing at speed of up to 46 kilometres per hour have added to the daytime discomfort.The officials have attributed the current conditions to multiple weather systems active across the region. A western disturbance over north Pakistan and adjoining Kashmir, along with cyclonic circulations over Punjab, southwest Rajasthan and southeast Uttar Pradesh, is influencing weather patterns. A north-south trough extending from Punjab to Rajasthan and another trough stretching from northeast Madhya Pradesh towards Bangladesh are also affecting local conditions. In addition, an anti-cyclonic circulation over interior Maharashtra and Telangana continues to persist.Experts indicate that temperature may see a gradual fall of around two degrees over the next three days, with maximum temperature expected to hover between 39 degrees Celsius and 40 degrees Celsius. At times, the mercury may dip further to 36 degrees Celsius to 37 degrees Celsius, aided by cloud movement. However, a fresh western disturbance is likely to impact the western Himalayan region from May 2, after which temperature may rise again.The health department has advised residents to remain cautious. Chief medical and health officer Dr Madhav Prasad Hasani urged people to stay hydrated, wear light clothing and avoid stepping out during peak afternoon hours, especially children, elderly and workers.
