Wedding season boosts milk demand in Indore
Indore: Milk demand in Indore is projected to increase by at least 8 per cent during the wedding season, compelling milk suppliers and dairy proprietors to augment collection to meet heightened demand.Institutional and household demand for milk is anticipated to rise with the commencement of the wedding season from the third week of November, assert milk suppliers. With numerous wedding muhurats scheduled in the forthcoming months, milk consumption has already begun to escalate.The supplementary milk demand during the wedding season stems from caterers, hotels and marriage venues in the season.A milk supplier to Indore Cooperative Dugdh Sangh, Balram Patel said, "Cooperatives have been requisitioning more milk this season. I am supplying approximately 25 litres daily to the cooperative compared to 15 litres earlier. Milk production has likewise increased, facilitating the supply of desired quantities, however, profitability remains stagnant due to substantial rearing and fodder expenses."Farmers indicate fodder rates are increasing by approximately 10 per cent annually, and elevated rearing costs diminish profit margins.Indore Cooperative Dugdh Sangh, which supplies packaged milk to consumers, procures milk from farmers through cooperatives. Daily milk collection at the Indore centre amounts to approximately 2.70 lakh litres, according to Indore Cooperative Dugdh Sangh.The association of dairy proprietors and loose milk suppliers anticipates an increase exceeding 1 lakh litres in milk supply in the forthcoming weeks.Bharat Mathurawala, president, Indore Dudgh Vikreta Sangh said, "During weddings, milk demand increases by at least 1-2 lakh litres from hoteliers and caterers. Household consumption likewise increases during winters."Daily milk collection by Indore Dudgh Vikreta Sangh amounts to approximately 12 lakh litre.
