INDORE: Six people including a 20-year-old man, his parents, the parents of minor bride and a maulvi have been booked for violating the Child Marriage Restraint Act, the police said on Thursday.

Officials said that the 15-year-old girl was officially married to the man on July 1, 2021. The maulvi, Mohammad Irfan Raja, a native of Bihar, brokered the deal, and organized the formal wedding on the premises of Naharshah Wali Dargah. The matter came to light when the city-based Child Rights Association representatives came to know about the child marriage and approached the police and lodged a formal complaint on Wednesday, they said. Khajrana police station in-charge Dinesh Sharma said that a case under IPC sections 376, 376 (2n), 376 (3), 344, 506, 34, besides under protection of child from sexual officences (POCSO) Act, 2012, and section 9 and 11 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act 206 has been registered against the maulvi Mohammad Irfan Raja, the groom Faizan Khan, a resident of Khajrana, parents and relatives namely - Arbaz, Farida, Shahrukh, and Sajid - all residents of Khajrana. “Three of the accused including the groom have been rounded up, and a hunt to nab others is on,” said Sharma.
