SGSITS gets Rs 1 crore grant for quantum push with Centre of Excellence
Indore: Quantum computing is set to move from theory to practice at Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS). The institute will establish a Centre of Excellence in quantum computing, quantum algorithms and quantum materials with a grant of Rs 1 crore under National Quantum Mission.Approved under the department of science and technology, the project will play a significant role in building undergraduate-level infrastructure for quantum technologies.The centre will function as a teaching and research laboratory where students will receive hands-on training in core concepts such as qubits, entanglement and superposition. They will also work with industry-relevant tools like Qiskit and Cirq, bringing them closer to real-world applications.The project was proposed by professor JT Andrew Thomas with Dr Vipin Kaushik, Dr AS Bais and Lokesh Jain as key members. Thomas said, "The initiative will integrate theoretical knowledge with experimentation, allowing students to build a deeper understanding of advanced technologies."Unlike conventional instruction, the centre is designed to promote experiential learning through hackathons, interdisciplinary coursework and research-based projects.
Students will engage in problem-solving exercises across domains such as quantum computing, communication, sensing and material. Faculty members said this approach will strengthen analytical ability and prepare students for emerging global careers.Director Neetesh Purohit said the approval reflects the institute's growing research ecosystem and focus on future-ready education. Such initiative will equip students with advanced skills. It will contribute to India's position in frontier technologies.The centre is also expected to encourage innovation and startup activity by providing a platform for students to develop ideas into viable projects and collaborate with industry.The institute has also secured Rs 34 lakh from the All India Council for Technical Education for developing a handheld, non-invasive blood glucose monitoring device using opto-MEMS technology. The device aims to provide a painless and accessible solution for diabetes management.
