Ujjain: In a case of disproportionate assets, the Economic Offenses Wing (EOW) in Ujjain conducted a raid on Saturday at the residence of Anil Suhane, a retired assistant manager of the District Cooperative Central Bank, located in Basant Vihar. The raid revealed assets worth crores, disproportionate to his income. Suhane received a salary of Rs70 lakh over his 34-year service period, yet he possesses assets exceeding Rs6 crore. Three bank lockers are yet to be opened, and information on deposits in several bank accounts is being gathered. The unit's operation continued until late evening, with the possibility of uncovering more assets.
EOW SP (Ujjain) Dilip Soni said a confidential tip-off was verified. Upon confirmation of the allegations of disproportionate assets against Anil Suhane, a case was registered under sections 13(1)(B) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, amended in 2018. On Saturday, with solid information, two teams simultaneously raided the accused Anil Suhane's residence at B 2/20 Basant Vihar, Ujjain, and another building at A 3/8 Basant Vihar Colony, Indore Road, Ujjain, uncovering assets worth crores. It appears that the accused acquired these assets through irregularities and corruption in the distribution of funds in various govt agricultural loan schemes. The operation by both teams continued until late evening.
According to Soni, Anil Suhane, accused in the disproportionate assets case, hails from Panna district. He was appointed as a sub-engineer at the District Cooperative Bank, New Road, Ujjain, in 1991, starting with a salary of Rs 3,000 per month. He retired as an assistant manager from the District Cooperative Bank, Ujjain, on December 31, 2024. Officials said there is a possibility of discovering more assets during the ongoing operation.
Preliminary investigations revealed a luxurious three-storey house equipped with modern amenities in the posh Basant Vihar Colony in Ujjain, a newly constructed four-storey commercial building on 2400 square feet on Indore-Ujjain Main Road in the same colony, a valuable 2300 square feet plot in Shipra Vihar, two plots of 650 square feet each in Vinay Nagar, two shops of 600 square feet each in the city's central medicine market, over Rs9 lakh, gold and silver jewellery worth lakhs of rupees, three four-wheelers, and three two-wheelers. Three bank lockers are yet to be opened, and information on deposits in several bank accounts is being gathered.
