INDORE : Government research agencies and private small industries can work together on a common platform to take innovations ahead commercially, improve product quality and come up with import substitution reducing the dependency on imports, said a senior scientist on Tuesday while addressing industrialists at a seminar.
"In India, industrialists have immense talent but fail to get desired results because they lack confidence to invest in research and development. We are dependent on imports and do not want to invest on innovation to develop new products," said Dr Mithilesh Tiwari, retired scientist from
Indian Space Research Organisation (
ISRO).
He said research agencies and industrialists can commercialize the innovation by filing for patents. The event was attended by the representatives of the Association of Industries Madhya Pradesh (AIMP). The seminar organized with the help of a forum Industry Innovators, Entrepreneurs Facilitators and Academia (IIEFA) aims to bridge the gap between MSME and innovators.
"Industries will have to modernize with time to keep running and only research could help them to remain in competition," he added
There are over 600 professional labs in the country where around 20,000 scientists work but small industries do not make use of the technology due to lack of awareness.
