Depalpur hostel girls allege ragging, stage protest

INDORE: Hundreds of

girl students

from Class IX and X living in a

hostel

in Depalpur area staged protest alleging that they were being harassed by their seniors.

The junior students assembled at Depalpur police station alleging that their seniors had been harassing them by making them clean their rooms and common bathrooms.

“We even have to wait for long to use the washroom every morning. The seniors first use the washrooms and then we are allowed to use it. They make us clean the washrooms and their rooms,” said a girl on condition of anonymity.

They said that they had informed the hostel in charge Pratibha Pandey about the matter several times, but she was indifferent to their problems.

Depalpur police station in charge Gopal Parmar spoke to the girls and heard their problems while promising them strict action. “The girls have not named the senior students, who have harassed them. We are investigating the matter. It will also be forwarded to

ragging

committee for further probe,” he said.

Meanwhile, some other students said that the girls were unnecessarily demeaning the hostel in charge since they are not allowed outside after a particular time. The authorities make them follow a routine and keep them in discipline and so they wanted to protest against them.

Police, however, said all the angles were being probed in the matter.
