‘Poverty is the new face of violence’

While addressing a gathering of Rotary Peace Commandos in Indore recently, Chinmay Mishra, a social activist from Indore, spoke on various faces of violence and the ways to prevent it. The system which allows 40% of people in the country to live below poverty line is violence.

The poor who die due to lack of medicine is a new face of violence. Several hundred thousands of people who are displaced for constructing dams and industries are victims of new forms of violence”.
He appreciated the initiative of Rotary Club of Indore in preparing citizens of Indore to be proactive and work for peace through service. Rotary International has adopted, ‘Peace through service’ as its motto. “The only way to prevent the new forms of violence is through selfless service,” said Mishra.
Rotary Peace Commandos is a creative initiative of Rotary Club of Indore to prepare citizens to be proactive people to prevent violence and promote peace and fellowship in the city. The members meet once in a month to reflect and plan their activities to promote peace. Rotary Club president Varghese Alengaden presided over the meeting.
