Potholes & puddles haunt Indoreans after downpour

Indore: Nearly a month since the onset of monsoon in Indore denizens are left in a lurch as they need to brave the waterlogged roads and potholes that wreak havoc every time it rains in the city.After every heavy spell of rainfall the commuters in the city are left to grapple with the aftermath of heavy rainfall in the city disrupting the smooth flow of traffic,Among the badly affected areas of the city are roads leading to Khajrana square, service lane from Khajrana towards Robot square, Sarwate, Bapat, Azad Nagar Sq, Teen Imli Square, Shivaji Pratima Square along with others. Residential areas of Raj Nagar near the Airport, Subhash Nagar, Sukhliya, Bapat square, Rasoma Sqaure witnessed the roads of the area submerged in water causing distress to the residents.“The roads start overflowing and water logging has become a permanent issue for us after every spell of rainfall. In many lanes roads have been dug and left like that just filling the mud back,” said Ashish Mitra, a resident of Saket nagar. The educational hub of Bhawarkuan also has been battling with waterlogging pothole issues. The roads leading to Government Arts and Commerce College have potholes filled with rainwater which becomes worse for the students when it starts raining.“We need to cross a muddy slush to reach the college. The situation becomes terrible when it rains. We need to save ourselves from the bikes and cars moving on this service road as mostly they splash muddy water on the pedestrians,” said Rishika Choubey, a college student while talking to TOI on Tuesday.Similarly the road from Bhawarkuan turning towards Khandwa road is incomplete and constructed in patches. A patch at the start of the road is left unconstructed and is muddy resulting in slipping of two wheelers. There are pits dug alongside this road for cable lines and water pipelines which get filled up and overflows during rainfall making the road muddy and slippery for the commuters.Similar pits have been dug and left open at many other places of the city by the civic body.
