Pipelines for treated water will be compulsory for high-rise buildings
Indore: Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) will now make it compulsory for high-rise commercial buildings, including shopping malls and corporate offices, to deploy separate pipelines for treated water. The reclaimed water must be used for non-potable requirements such as flushing, building maintenance, vehicle washing, and landscaping to preserve fresh water resources.
“All new commercial high-rise buildings will have to install a separate line for the supply of used water, which will be treated at their own recycling plants, for non-drinking purposes,” IMC Commissioner Kshitij Singhal told TOI.
The mandate will be formally integrated into a comprehensive water policy currently being drafted, he said, adding that once the framework was finalized, the policy would be presented in Mayor-in-Council (MIC) for regulatory approval.
The forthcoming water regulations will prioritize decentralized groundwater recharging, expanding roof rainwater harvesting networks, checking pipeline leakages, and maximizing carrying capacity of local reservoirs.
