PCB orders closure of four industries
Indore: The Madhya Pradesh Pollution Control Board (PCB) on Friday ordered closure of four industries at Sanwer Road Industrial area while 23 other industries were served notices for polluting Kahn River and not discharging effluents to the common effluent treatment plant (CEPT).The quantity of industrial discharge from industries of Sanwer Road Industrial area has reduced to 10-12 tanks from earlier 40-45 tanks, said PCB. The capacity of one tank is around 4,000-6,000 litre. In an inspection carried by a 4-member team of PCB following complaints from the Indore municipal corporation, these industries were found to be flouting the norms laid under the Water (Prevention and Control) Act, 1974 and were not discharging the waste industrial water to the CEPT located in sector F of the Sanwer Industrial area.Four industries were shut on the spot after the inspection of the PCB while 7 industries were slapped with closure notices and the rest 16 were served with show cause notices following the types of violation and quantum of water pollution. The two-day operation by PCB was concluded on Friday and notices were issued under the Water Act.“Some industries in Sanwer road are connected to CEPT through pipelines and discharge from those units directly reach CEPT, while others have to send the industrial discharge through tankers. Recently 23 industries had stopped following the norms and were not discharging the industrial waste to the CEPT,” said an official from PCB wishing anonymity.PCB said, IMC had raised concerns over a decline in effluents from industries to CEPT after which inspections were carried out at many industries, of which 27 were found flouting norms and polluting the groundwater.
