Parents to ask PM Narendra Modi for ‘ban’ on Blue Whale game
After a Class VII student attempted to commit suicide in Indore in Thursday, the Indore Parents Association (IPA) has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting him to “ban” the Blue Whale game in India.
Even officials of the education department have been instructed to spread awareness about the game among schoolchildren.
“This is a dangerous game and needs to be banned. We are writing a letter to the PM on behalf of the IPA requesting him to ban the game in India. We will also be attaching the newspaper cuttings of this news story for reference,” said Anurodh Jain, convener Indore Parents Association (IPA).
The IPA has also planned to conduct a special parenting awareness programme for parents to deal with such situations and get to know their kids better.
“During IPA’s parents programme next month, we will keep a special session for parents and will call experts to guide parents on how to deal with their kids and how they can keep them away from such games,” added Jain.
City schools plan to conduct awareness programmes on digital discipline and cyber security for students as well as parents. The schools plan to talk to parents during monthly meetings about changes in the child’s behaviour, if any.
“This incident is an awakening for all of us to safeguard children from such online games. Recently our school students conducted a survey and analysed case studies on the topic ‘digital discipline’. We will continue to conduct such activities for students and will conduct awareness programmes for parents,” said Archana Sharma, chairperson, Sahodaya Group of CBSE Schools.
Schools also plan to send circulars to parents asking them to not allow students — especially younger ones — to use internet without supervision.
