Organs of 34-year-old brain dead man save three lives in Indore

Indore: A 34-year-old civil engineer, who died due to brain haemorrhage, gave a new lease of life to at least three persons on Tuesday after his family consented to organ donation. Anupam Nalme, a resident of Shujalpur, had suffered a severe brain haemorrhage at his home on March 20. He was initially rushed to V-One Hospital before being moved to CHL Care Hospital on March 22. Despite the efforts of the medical team, he was declared him brain dead after mandatory clinical evaluations."Anupam was always at the forefront of helping others. We wanted his spirit of service to live on," his family shared.Volunteers from an NGO, Muskan Group, provided counselling to the grieving family, who agreed to donate his organs. Following the family's consent 67th Green Corridor was formed in Indore to transport Nalme's kidneys and skin on Tuesday."On Tuesday afternoon, a Green Corridor was formed in the city to ensure transport of the harvested organs," Muskan Group volunteer Jitu Bagani told TOI.His kidneys were transported to Shalby Hospital, where it was transplanted into a 34-year-old male patient and 55 year-old woman. His skin was donated to aid in the treatment of people who suffered burns, and reconstructive surgeries. Also, his liver was transplanted into a 44-year-old woman undergoing treatment at CHL Care Hospital, Bagani said. Following the family's request to maximise the donation, State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation and National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTO) issued a national alert for his heart valves, pancreas, bones, small intestine and hands. But, due to technical constraints and the lack of an immediate matching recipient in the required window, these specific transplants could not be completed.In recognition of his extraordinary contribution to humanity, Anupam was accorded a guard of honour at the hospital. Amid a sombre atmosphere, family members, hospital staff and administrative officials stood in silence to pay their respects to the man who saved three lives even after his death.
