Indore harassment case: MPCA questions BCCI, CA over security lapse; asks did 2 Australian cricketers seek security or ‘inform’ officials?
INDORE: Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association (MPCA) has sought details from BCCI-appointed security officers and Cricket Australia (CA) on whether the two Australian women's cricket team players - who complained of harassment on a city street near their team hotel while on way to a cafe on Oct 23 - had informed officials or requested a security escort before stepping out of their hotel.
On Oct 23, the Australian team security officer Danny Simmons had lodged an FIR, saying that the two cricketers were touched inappropriately by a man. They are part of the Australian national woman's cricket team that was in the city since Oct 17 to play their group match against South Africa on Saturday in the ICC Women's World Cup.
"We have sought details from BCCI security officer and Cricket Australia representative overseeing the team's security on whether the players requested security cover or moved out of the hotel without Intimation. We are yet to receive a response from both," MPCA chief administrative officer Rohit Pandit told TOI on Sunday, a dat after the incident came to light and Indore police commissioner Santosh Singh informed media about it. According to MPCA, the Australian team's security arrangements included BCCI-appointed security officers and one officer appointed by Cricket Australia, in addition to local police personnel stationed at the team's hotel.
MPCA stated that it is cooperating with the police and other authorities to determine if there was any communication lapse or breach in security protocol. "We are treating this matter seriously. The association wants to ensure complete clarity so that such incidents do not recur," officials said.
The Australian and South African teams left for their semi-final venue on Sunday.
