NMC team inspects MGM for recognition of PG seats

Indore: A team of National Medical Commission (NMC) inspected two departments of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College for granting recognition for post graduate seats there. The inspection was carried out in the medicine department and psychiatry department for recognition of 14 and six PG seats respectively. These inspections were part of NMC norms for recognition (validation) of degree in a medical college, officials said.MGM dean Dr Sanjay Dixit told TOI, “The inspections for the medicine and psychiatry department for recognition happened on Friday. The departments were running PG courses on 14 and six seats.”The NMC issues a letter of permission for running PG courses or increasing it as an approval to start the course. The NMC later during the final examination of PG courses carried out an inspection around three year later for grant of recognition, officials said, explaining the scheme of inspection.On getting this letter of recognition, the course is approved for next five years. Then, again NMC carried out another inspection, officials added.Before applying for NMC permission, the medical college gets a letter of consent from the university issuing degrees. Similarly, the NMC team carried out an inspection for a letter of permission to increase 21 PG seats in the medicine department in MGMMC. The inspection was carried out on May 31.Further, the NMC inspection would happen next week for the TB and chest department and cardiology department in MGM. Currently, MGM has 250 UG seats and 259 PG seats, including five seats of emergency medicine approved by NMC, recently.The PG seats numbers are increased in medical colleges in MP in two phases- first in 2012 and second in 2019.
