Good train derailment: Restoration work continues overnight, six trains rescheduled
Indore: Restoration work continued overnight on Mumbai-Delhi railway line in Ratlam after three diesel tankers of a goods train derailed on Thursday. The incident led to leakage of diesel from an overturned tanker raising environmental concerns. Several train services were also disrupted.Diesel leaked from the overturned tanker throughout the night contaminating the surrounding area. As the news of the incident spread, locals flocked to the site and starting collecting the fuel leaking from the tanker using buckets and cans. Collector Rajesh Bathm, additional collector RS Mandloi, SDM Anil Bhana and tehsildar along with police officials reached the spot to take stock of the situation. Officials from Bangrod Indian Oil depot were also called in at the site. "To contain the situation, a crane was brought in to remove the overturned tanker, and sandbags were used to prevent further spread of the diesel. RPF personnel were deployed to secure the area. The diesel-contaminated soil was removed and disposed of following proper environmental protocols," Ratlam DRM Rajneesh Kumar said.Also, local administration has initiated clean-up operations to minimise the damage caused to environment due to the leakage of diesel. The accident disrupted the down line of Delhi-Mumbai route delaying the operation of two passenger trains during night hours. Later, several trains, including Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express, were delayed or rescheduled. On Friday, six trains — 12962 Indore-Mumbai Central Avntika Express, 09546 Nagda-Ratlam Special, 09545 Ratlam-Nagda, 19341 Nagda-Bina, 09382 Ratlam-Dahod, and 09350 Dahod-Anand — were rescheduled. "The exact cause of the derailment is still under investigation. A team of four senior officials has been formed to examine various factors, including the condition of the tracks, the speed of the train, and any potential mechanical failures," Kumar said. The DRM said, "Prima facie any conspiracy did not appear to be behind the accident. But a committee will probe into it and submit a detail report. Appropriate action will be taken thereafter".
