MPL to offer jobs alongside cricketopportunities across state: Scindia
MPL has grown rapidly in a short time. How do you see its journey and impact on state cricket?n The success of the Madhya Pradesh League is not individual. It belongs to a collective effort involving governing body, franchise owners, production teams, MPCA and even the smaller stakeholders like groundsmen and support staff. At the same time, the real driving force has been the players. Their talent and performance have created attention around the league, even attracting IPL and national team scouts. Today, MPL is seen as one of the better-run state leagues in the country, and that recognition has contributed to its rapid growth. What led to introduction of the IPL-style auction this year? n In the first two seasons, we followed a draft system, but it had its limitations in terms of player valuation and team strategy. Based on that experience, we felt an auction would bring more transparency and competitiveness into the process. It allows players to be valued more fairly, while also giving franchises greater flexibility in building their squads. Importantly, it improves earning opportunities for domestic and grassroots players, where even a few lakhs can make a meaningful difference. How will the MPCA and MPL's long-term vision benefit players across the state? n The focus is on strengthening the pathway for players, especially those from grassroots areas. The idea is to identify raw, unpolished talent and give them a structured platform to grow, compete and move up the system. Alongside the league, MPCA is also conducting talent hunt programmes and providing training support, so players from smaller regions get access to better coaching, exposure and opportunities. How will MPL ensure grassroots players actually get opportunities at the top level? n We have introduced a player development policy where each franchise must pick two players who are not part of any district or division setup. These players are trained and groomed by the teams and one of them must be included in the playing 11. This gives them direct match exposure at a competitive level which is crucial for their growth and visibility. What sets the MPL apart from other state leagues? n There are a few distinct aspects. We have a job-linked initiative where each franchise offers six employment opportunities every year, including roles for women. We also follow a profit-sharing model with franchises, which is rare at this level, not many leagues in the country do that. In addition, we have introduced a mobile platform that combines fan engagement with match updates and player information. How has the MPL contributed to the growth of women's cricket in the state? n That is a key focus area for us. We are among the few leagues with women's teams, currently five. This has already contributed to players like Kranti Goud, Vaishnavi Sharma and Anushka Sharma reaching the national level. We are committed to strengthening women's cricket further.
