MP secures 3rd berth in finals of nat’l pool tourney

Indore: Sumer Mango of Maharashtra and Natasha Chetan of Karnataka emerged as champions in boy and girl divisions respectively in the junior category finals of the Indian National Pool Championship, 2023 on Monday at Daly College.Daly College campus witnessed a thrilling spectacle as grand finale of Indian National Pool Championship, 2023 junior under-21 category unfolded. In the boys’ final, Sumer Mango of Maharashtra engaged in an epic battle against Mayur Garg of Gujarat. In a nail-biting contest that extended to 13 frames, Sumer Mango prevailed with a 7-6 victory. Sumer displayed remarkable composure securing his championship title.Gaurav Chhada of Madhya Pradesh secured third place by defeating Mahendra Chauhan, who was also from Madhya Pradesh, with 5-3.The girls’ category final witnessed a stellar performance by Natasha Chetan of Karnataka, who outpaced Saanvi Shah of Madhya Pradesh, with a score of 5-3. Natasha’s experience and lightning-fast pace proved to be decisive factors in the match. Madhya Pradesh’s Vaidika Tomar secured third place by defeating Rishiba Mata with 4-3.The junior champions were honoured by Daly College senior vice-principal Ahmed Ansari in presence of BSFI general secretary Sunil Bajaj and BSFI vice-president Ashwini Puranik. Senior category, which commenced with 9 ball format, featured a series of thrilling preliminary round matches. Notable results included Sandhu (Haryana) defeating Nishant (Delhi) 5-0, Nisarg Patel (Gujarat) prevailing over Bhajanlal (Rajasthan) 6-1, and Namik Sharma (Delhi) triumphing over M Abhishek (Tamil Nadu) 6-3. The championship, which is being under patronage of Billiard and Snooker Federation of India (BSFI) and Madhya Pradesh Billiards and Snooker Association (MPSBA), has witnessed extraordinary talent and fierce competition in three days. It will conclude on September 15. With participation of renowned players Sumer Mango and Natasha Chetan, and a pool of 300 players representing 28 states, the tournament is set to raise the bar for Indian pool sports. Winners of this championship will have the opportunity to shine on the stage of Asia and world championship.
