NHM MP Director Priyanka Das told TOI, “State has been following aggressive testing for early detection of tuberculosis cases under National TB elimination programme (NTEP) 2025.”
“Under the aggressive testing, pockets with lower nutritional level, poor hygiene are identified for testing because such areas have a more susceptible population for TB”, said NHM director Das.
“The reduction in incidence as well as case load in the state with progressively more testing clearly shows that we are on the right track towards TB elimination in Madhya Pradesh”, said NHM director Das.
A door-to-door campaign for active case finding was started in the state from 2019-20 under a TB elimination programme that helped in containing spread of disease. After identification, the patients are put on treatment protocol after identification of strain, said NHM director Das.

“A normal TB infected person gets cured in six months and those affected with MDR are cured in nine months. The family members of positive TB cases are put on preventive therapy to rule out the possibility of TB infection in future”, said NHM director Das.
In 2021, the state reported 1.66 lakh have been detected with TB infection including 12347 paediatric cases, showed the report.
Of those 1.66 lakh cases, 79% were of pulmonary TB with 51% of all cases being diagnosed through chest X-ray. There were 18054 cases with previous treatment history in the state last year, the report showed.
