“In the last one week after the drive began in the city, the demand of milk has gone up by 5,000 litres,” said Sanchi CEO PN Dwivedi.
The problem of milk supply in these areas had reduced from the last two weeks but in the last few days it has completely stopped.
Cattle owners of the city said that after the drive was started by the civic body, all cattle owners have taken their cattle away from the city.
“I had more than 70 cows at my cattle shed, I have taken them to an area 50 km away from the city, I don’t have vehicles that can help me deliver milk in the city,” a cattle owner said on the condition of anonymity.
Moreover, the cattle owners said that even if they start supplying milk, their cost would go up and people were not eager to pay that much.
The residents of many areas said that they were facing problems due to the supply. “I have small children for whom I bought fresh milk from, they are not used to drinking packaged milk,” said Chanda Verma, a resident of Nanda Nagar.
Moreover some people complained that there was shortage of packaged milk in the milk parlors.
“The stock goes out in very less time; if we are lucky the milk is available in the evening else we do not get milk,” said Gayatru Dewan, a resident of Malwa Mill.
Other areas like Pardesipura, Harsidhi and places in Rajwada area complained of similar problems.
The IMC has made a list of house owned by 200 cattle owners that would be demolished in the coming days. Cattle rearing have been allowed in some areas in the outskirts.
