Man stabbed, robbed of gold chain near Sipur lake

INDORE: Safety of visitors at Sipur lake once again came under the scanner after a 43-year-old man was brutally stabbed during an early morning robbery at

Sirpur Lake

on Friday.

The victim identified as

Atul Kakane

runs a dry-fruits shop and is a resident of Gumashta Nagar.

It was around 7.00am when the victim was walking from Gate No 3 to the main gate of the lake. Suddenly, two unidentified men in their nearing 30s came behind the victim and started chasing him. Before he could realize what was happening, one of the accused stabbed him in the back and then on the right side of his abdomen.

, who was on the spot with Atul at the time when the incident took place, told TOI that as the victim fell down, the accused robbed him of a gold chain. “They didn’t say a word to us, and I was confused as to why he was attacked. I later realized it that they wanted the gold chain that he was wearing,” said Atul’s friend Ajay Gupta. “I could not try to stop them as they had knife, and my friend was lying in a pool of blood,” he added.

Gupta said that no one came forward to save Atul. “All those were on the stretch were taken by surprise as the incident happened within a matter of seconds,” he said.

He said that after the miscreant fled the spot, he helped Atul to walk for around 200 metres. There was no vehicle, and the only thing Ajay found was a handcart, which he with help of two others friends took Atul to outside the gate. From there he was transported to a nearby hospital.

Chandan Nagar

police registered a case under Section 394 of IPC and are further investigating the matter. The police said that the victim was wearing a gold chain which was weighing to be around 80 gram. “The victim was stabbed for three times, and his condition is stated to be serious,” said Chandan Nagar police station in-charge
