Man sentenced to 3-year RI in Indore

Indore: A local court in Indore sentenced a man to three years each of rigorous imprisonment for promoting enmity between groups and for distributing pamphlets related to a banned organisation Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), on Tuesday.
The court of judicial magistrate first class Rekha Tiwari convicted Mohammad Naved Irfan under section 153-A of IPC and section 13 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act with imprisonment of three years each and also fined him of Rs 2000. Khajrana police had on April 7, 2008 received a tip-off about Irfan being involved in activities of banned organisation SIMI and collecting funds for it to spread hatred between two communities, the prosecution stated. The police had received a tip-off that Irfan was to go out of Indore but before leaving, he would distribute pamphlets and collect donations. The police went to Irfan’s address and arrested him and recovered offensive text material from him, the prosecution stated. tnn
