Man posing as DSP dupes hotel owner of ₹30 lakh

Indore: Crime branch of Indore police on Sunday arrested a man, who had duped a hotel owner of Rs 30 lakh by posing as deputy superintendent of police (DSP) crime. Police have seized Rs 12 lakh cash along with a police uniform used to commit the crime from the accused. Police said that they had received a complaint from a hotel owner Deepak Kumar, a resident of Scheme 78, that a man posing as DSP had threatened to kill him in an encounter and had been blackmailing him using an objectionable video of him. He had duped him of Rs 30 lakh in various transactions. Deepak told police that he had received four videos from an unknown number which were tampered and edited to make them obscene. The videos were immediately deleted by the sender and they demanded Rs 2.5 crore failing which they threatened to make them viral on social media. Deepak told his close friend Kamal Mehra about it who made him meet the accused Ashok Tiwari. Ashok first promised to help him and later said that he was being followed by a group of accused for which he asked for money to get rid of them. In several transactions, the Ashok made Deepak transfer Rs 30 lakh into his own account. On complaint of Deepak, police started investigation and a case was registered against Ashok. .The accused, police said, is a dismissed officer from railway police force (RPF) and had been pretending to be crime branch DSP.
