Man immolates self in front of police stn
Indore: A 28-year-old man immolated himself in front of Kotwali police station in Mhow on Tuesday night. He suffered 40 percent burns and is undergoing treatment.DSP Umakant Choudhary said that the incident took place on Tuesday at around 8:30 pm when Akshay Karnik, a resident of Yadav Mohalla, drove to the police station and parked his vehicle a short distance away. He kept his written complaint on stairs of the police station, doused himself with petrol and set himself on fire.As soon as the police officers present there saw a man in flames, they rushed to his aid, extinguished the flames, and took him to a local hospital. He was later referred to a private hospital in Indore.The man told the police that he had borrowed Rs 20,000 from one Jay Yadav, who resides in the same locality, about two years ago. Since then, he claimed to have repaid the loan with interest, totalling to Rs 60,000. Despite settling the loan, he alleged that Yadav and others continued to harass him.Choudhary said that a case of extortion and under relevant sections of the Money Lenders Act was registered against seven persons including Jay Yadav who was arrested on Tuesday night.“The man had never made a complaint at the police station before taking the extreme step. He claimed that he wanted to draw police attention by doing this,” said Choudhary.
