INDORE: City bus connectivity in Indore is all set to improve as the
Atal Indore City Transport Services Limited
(AICTSL) has finalised 19 new routes to launch operation of
CNG buses
.
The buses are being brought under the Centre's Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) and AICTSL has planned to introduce them into its fleet by next month.
AICTSL officials said that 200 CNG buses will be introduced in a phased manner on 19 new routes, while the number of buses plying on the existing 38 routes will also be increased.
"The new routes have been planned to provide bus connection options for commuters on the outskirts and in suburban areas of the city," said an official.
AICTSL chief executive officer
Sandeep Soni
said that around 600 CNG buses would be run under the initiative and 50 of them would be introduced in the first phase. "We will operate the new CNG buses on a public private partnership (PPP) model and also generate over Rs16 crore as profit from operations of these buses," he said, while adding that they would be using bio-CNG produced at the biomethanation plants of the
Indore Municipal Corporation
(
IMC
) to save expenses on fuel.
"Recently, we have also received the national award for excellence in urban transport," Soni added.
