Leopard found dead on state highway in Neemuch

Ujjain: A carcass of a four-year-old leopard was found on Neemuch-Jhalawar highway in the western region of Gandhi Sagar Sanctuary in Neemuch district Tuesday morning. DFO SK Atode said that the patrol team of the sanctuary had received information about the dead leopard and the team reached the spot. Based on the evidence at the site, it appeared to be an accident. The accident site is outside the enclosure made for cheetahs and is at the western edge of the sanctuary between Rawligudi and the Gandhi Sagar dam. "After the postmortem, veterinarians clarified in their report that the leopard died due to severe fractures in femur and back bone. It is likely that while crossing the state highway, the leopard was hit by an unidentified vehicle and could not get up after being injured in the hind. Forest department has registered a case and taken it under investigation. CCTV footage is being reviewed to identify the unknown vehicle. The leopard was cremated according to the rituals."
