INDORE: Hanging lamps, torans (decorative festoons hung at the entrance of a house) and terracotta figurines are some attractions flooding the market these day for those who are out to grab the first-come-first-buy opportunity to adorn their houses with these colourful and exquisite pieces of art on Diwali.
The decorative items are works of artisans from Ahmedabad and Eastern UP, while some china made items too occupy a place of pride in these hops owing to their economical prices.
Says a shop owner, "Terracotta, famous for its earthy, rustic feel adds magic to the décor. The collection is bought from Ahmedabad, Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Agra. Mostly customers opt for designer diyas, terracotta wind chimes, hanging lamps, idols and statues." Apart from pots, terracotta artifacts such as horses, bells and Ganesha's are also quite popular. These items are perfect for both indoor and outdoor decoration, as terracotta brings rustic charm and elegance," he says.
Kamlesh Parmar, who sells rangoli colours says, "There are 22 different colours of rangoli, with frames of various designs printed over it." The price for small frame is Rs 10 while for big ones it is Rs 25-40, he added.
Says home maker Shruti Jha, "To add much vibrancy and life to Diwali decoration, I have bought lamps and floating plates. Overall so far, I have spent Rs 15,000 on decoration items."
