The dengue scare has spread fear across the city and Indoreans are doing their best to stay away from this deadly disease. Despite that though, city youngsters aren’t shying away from partying in the evenings and over the weekends.
Not without my mosquito repellent The venue might be decked up with cakes, candles and decoration but birthday bashes in the city aren’t complete without mosquito repellent creams.
Yes, you read that right! Indore party lovers are taking utmost care, especially in the evening, due to the threat of mosquito bites. “These days, every time I plan to go for a party in the evening, I make sure to apply a mask of dengue protection on my body,” informed Isha Mahajan, a student of SGSITS.
The trend of booking a farmhouse and spending weekends away from the chaos of the city is picking up in indore but the idea of being surrounded by lots of tress that might house mosquitoes is sending shivers down Indoreans’ spines. So, to overcome this hurdle and enjoy their weekend, youngsters are adhering to precautionary measure. “A weekend getaway is a must on extended weekends. At the same time, our family makes sure to take precautions especially during this time when dengue is rampant in the country,” said Anirudh Vyas, an entrepreneur from the city who is going on a long weekend trip along with his family to Mandu.
Dress code: Full sleeves! While style experts and fashionistas might swear by certain dresses as party-wear, Indore’s youngsters have shown presence of mind. Besides being fashion-conscious, they are becoming health-conscious as well. Vaishali Majumdar, a fashion designing student and party animal, said, “It’s a scary situation with the increasing number of dengue cases in the city. I am making necessary changes to my wardrobe as not going out is not the solution. Wearing full-sleeved dresses or shirts is a smart move as then you can go out an enjoy without fearing mosquito bites.”
The new makeup hack The growing obsession with the mosquito repellent cream has found its way into the makeup kit as well. “Last week, we had a freshers party at our college campus and my mom was so worried that she asked me to put a mask of mosquito repellent cream over my makeup. It definitely gave out a pungent smell and made my skin oily but at least I was assured to not be bitten by mosquitoes,” said Shradha Kanungo, a business school student.
Standard hygiene mandates at office parties The working professionals are specially making sure that their regular office parties are hosted only when there are satisfactory preventive measures. Mosquito coils, repellents and more such things have become necessities on the city’s party circuit. Darshan Mandaloi, a manager at a bank, informed, “It is a regular affair for our office team to host parties but this time, it’s the dengue prevention measures that are more discussed than the food and beverage menu. The idea of getting bed-ridden is scary but it can’t stop us from partying. Plus, we have a simple solution in following the preventive measures conveyed by the medical experts of the city.”
