Indore: India's cleanest city, Indore, has set an ambitious goal of transforming Depalpur into a swachh nagar parishad within the next 100 days under the Swachh Shehar Jodi initiative
A day after signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed under the initiative, mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav led the first working meeting in Depalpur on Sunday to launch the action plan. He said, "The goal is set to make Depalpur a leading city in cleanliness rankings over the next 100 days. This is not just a 100-day plan, but an effort designed to establish a long-lasting, sustainable system."
The mayor stressed that cleanliness must become a habit, not just a task. He warned that after a period of public awareness, strict enforcement will follow.
"After 15 days, if garbage will be found on the streets in Depalpur, a fine of Rs 25,000 will be imposed," the mayor warned the public through local representatives.
Also, the town's famous cattle fair will be brought under CCTV surveillance, to maintain hygiene. Its beauty will be enhanced by creating sculptures and other artistic pieces using local iron waste, he said.
The launch meeting was attended by local MLA Manoj Patel, Depalpur nagar parishad president, IMC officials and local ward corporators.
To ensure immediate public participation, local MLA Manoj Patel announced a significant incentive. "The ward in Depalpur, which will achieve highest level of cleanliness, will receive a personal cash award of Rs 11 lakh," he announced.
Patel also committed to distribute 25,000 cloth bags to households to curb the use of plastic.
