Indore sees wet & cool start to June, temp may stay above normal in second half of month

Indore: Rain and thunderstorms have ushered in a cooler start to June in Indore, but the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast the respite to be temporary.The monthly outlook issued by the weather department indicates that the first half of June is likely to remain comparatively pleasant, with temperatures staying near or below normal due to increased cloud cover and weather disturbances.Met officials said the first week of June is expected to witness intermittent pre-monsoonal rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds. Some parts of Indore division may also receive heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm activity. The weather conditions are expected to provide temporary respite from the rising temperatures experienced over the past few weeks.The second week of June is also likely to remain comfortable, with temperatures hovering around normal levels and occasional light rain activity continuing across the region.“The first two weeks of June for Indore and nearby areas will witness near and below normal temperatures with clouding and thunderstorms due to a western disturbance affecting the region,” scientist at IMD Bhopal Arun Sharma said.The monthly forecast, however, presents a contrasting picture for the latter half of June. While the southwest monsoon is expected to reach Indore around its normal schedule, after June 15, the city may still experience above-normal temperatures during the third and fourth weeks of the month.The IMD has also forecast that overall rain during June is likely to remain below normal despite the anticipated onset of the monsoon. This means that rain activity could be less frequent and less intense than what is typically recorded during the month.“As per the forecast, rain activity is likely in the coming days, but overall rain during June is expected to remain below normal. The strong winds also disrupted power supply, leaving many localities without electricity for hours.Met forecast similar weather conditions over the next three to four days, with chances of rain and strong winds continuing under the influence of a trough line and western disturbance. The IMD also indicated that the southwest monsoon might arrive in Madhya Pradesh a few days later than usual, though ongoing pre-monsoon showers are expected to keep temperatures in check.
