Indore records 681 MW peak power demand in June so far

Indore: Madhya Pradesh Paschim Kshetra Vidyut Vitaran Company Limited recorded a peak power demand of 681 MW in Indore city on Tuesday, marking the highest consumption in a day in the month so far.

This follows a record-breaking month of May, which saw the city’s peak electricity demand hit an all-time high of 748 MW on May 25.

According to officials, this surge was driven by a prolonged heatwave, with temperatures consistently ranging between 41°C and 43°C in May. The power demand remained above 700 MW even at midnight on several days in May, a period when industrial and commercial requirements typically drop by 50% and 95% respectively, highlighting unprecedented domestic cooling loads.

Western Discom managing director Anoop Kumar Singh said that capacity expansion works on grids, transformers, conductors, and cables were proactively executed during February and March to ensure uninterrupted supply during these peak periods.
